I've just moved around the world to Melbourne to finally live out my fantasy life as an anthropology student in the big city. In the meantime, I'm taking note of cultural differences between Australia and the US and recording my adventures abroad.
This week I weaned myself off my addiction to coffee by replacing my daily drink with Coke Zero. Yesterday I stopped before that became a habit and am now addicted to Werther’s Original Classic Cream Candies. Success! I deserve a celebratory coffee tomorrow.

Applying for Permanent Residency
I was so excited to start this process but it is slowly killing me… In addition to lots of money it is taking up so much time. Time that I could be using to study and do homework so that I make sure that I actually do complete my Masters by June. I just had to look up every address I’ve lived at in the last 10 years. Exact dates. That was painful. Now they are asking for detailed employer history of every single job (including top 5 roles at each) since I graduated. Next I get to put in my entire educational history. 11 addresses. 7 jobs. 3 degrees. One drop down menu at a time. This is going to take all night.

I went swimming today for exercise for the first time in my life.

It’s on TV right now and for some reason it’s called “Suddenly 30” in Australia. I looked it up on Wikipedia and apparently it’s called “Sugar and Spice” in some places. Sugar and Spice???
The Australian Open
Once again, the weather gods have blessed Melbourne for the Aussie Open. It conveniently warmed and and dried up just in time for the tennis to start, stayed warm for two weeks, and ended on a hot note for the weekend of the finals. Then, on Monday morning, the day after it finished… it rained again. Today, it is cold again.
